PATRIOT Act Reauthorization Blocked
Last night, writers, booksellers, librarians, and other defenders of
reader privacy won the biggest battle yet in the fight to restore privacy
protections to bookstore and library records that were eliminated by the
USA PATRIOT Act, thanks to the hard work of PEN's Core Freedoms

PEN Denounces Postponement in Orhan Pamuk Trial
On December 16, PEN decried the suspension of trial proceedings against
Turkish author Orhan Pamuk. PEN believes the charges against him should
have been dismissed outright and that the delay is another way to prolong
pressure on Pamuk and dozens of other writers and publishers currently
being prosecuted in Turkey. [More]
