LISTEN TO STATE OF EMERGENCY ONLINE
On November 8, Cooper Union's Great Hall filled for the State of Emergency
readings against torture, arbitrary detention, and extraordinary
rendition. Now you can listen to the entire event on the PEN web site,

CALL TO ACTION
Save Habeas Corpus Rights of Guantánamo Detainees
Please contact your senators immediately and urge them to support any
effort to remove the part of Senator Lindsey Graham's amendment banning
Guantánamo prisoners from filing writs of habeas corpus in court. [More]

PEN Goes to Court for Documents on Visa Denials
On November 10, PEN American Center joined the American Civil Liberties
Union and the American Association of University Professors in filing a
lawsuit to compel the Departments of State, Justice, and Homeland Security
and the CIA to release documents that will shed light on whether the
United States is barring prominent international figures from visiting the
United States because of their political views. [More]

PEN Remembers Ken Saro-Wiwa
November 10 was also the tenth anniversary of the execution of Ken
Saro-Wiwa, the Nigerian author and activist who was hanged by the regime
of Sani Abacha along with eight other Ogoni activists in 1995. [More]

Library Project, and whether a universal digital repository of our
